Product Description

The Whirlwind Micmute boxes are excellent passive switching solutions. They let you control the on and off states of a microphone or balanced line signal easily, either with a footswitch or a finger switch. There are three styles, covering all the key mic control functions. Each style comes in two actuator types: a heavy - duty footswitch (models PT, PM, PP) for hands - free use and a finger - operated version (models PTD, PMD, PPD) for desktop setups. Each box has a female XLR input and a male XLR output. When no signal passes through, the output mutes the connected audio device. All MicMute styles support phantom power for condenser microphones. The Micmute PM and PMD are Push to Mute switches. The input signal is usually on. Press and hold the switch to mute the signal, and it reconnects when you release. The Micmute PT and PTD are Push to Talk switches. The input signal is normally off. Press and hold to turn on the signal, and it disconnects when released. The Micmute PP and PPD are latching Push On; Push Off switches. Push and release the switch to change the signal state. They have an indicator LED. When phantom power is present, the blue LED shows the mic is live. The Micmute PPD uses an indicating rocker switch with a red bar when the signal is on.

Using the Whirlwind Micmute box is quite straightforward. First, connect your microphone to the female XLR input and the output device to the male XLR output. If you're using a condenser microphone, make sure the device provides phantom power as all Micmute styles can pass it. For the Micmute PM and PMD, if you want to mute the signal, just press and hold the switch. Release it when you want the signal back. For the Micmute PT and PTD, the signal is off by default. Press and hold to talk and the signal will pass through. When you're done, release the switch. For the Micmute PP and PPD, a single press and release will change the signal state between on and off. You can see the status with the indicator LED when phantom power is available. When using the footswitch models, place the footswitch where it's easy for you to reach. The finger - operated models are great for desks. As for maintenance, keep the boxes clean and dry. Don't expose them to extreme temperatures or humidity. Check the connections regularly to ensure a stable signal.
